Helena, Queen of Mismatching

October 20, 2011

I like thrifted things and it’s literally written all over my blog. When it comes to shoes, however, I rather stick to new. New and on sale, that is. My options are very limited and I’m a bit picky, so that’s why it’s happened before that I’ve ended up buying the same pair in different colors during 2 for 1 sales.

Mismatched shoes

Mostly because I can, I decided to mix it up a bit and do like the fabulous Helena Bonham Carter at the Golden Globes.

The original plan was to pay homage to Helena and her “catastrophic” style with an outfit inspired by her own, but Vivienne Westwood gowns were nowhere to be found in my closet. Darn. I had to play it up with what I do have: vintage blouses and high-waist shorts.

Mismatched shoes outfit idea When I was leaving my house in this outfit, I ran into my mother at the front door. Unexpectedly, her reaction was not one of surprise: “that’s how Mirna, my friend from college, wore her shoes”. Not that I should be shocked that mismatched shoes were an 80s trend, but that someone dared to in Honduras?  Hats off to Mirna, wherever she may be.
